Environmental impact evaluation and long-term rutting resistance performance of warm mix asphalt technologies

چکیده
The adoption of warm mix asphalt (WMA) technologies is well accepted due to its promising environmental benefits, however, their long-term field performance not understood. This study focused on the rutting resistance WMA and companion hot (HMA) based 83 samples collected from 28 projects across United States covering four climate zones, quantified impacts for various as compared HMA. Field cores were evaluated by dynamic modulus, creep compliance, Hamburg wheel-tracking device tests. Asphalt binders extracted continuous grading (PG), multiple stress recovery (MSCR), monotonic shear results showed that exhibited similar with HMA after aging. Existence polymer in binder was displayed through plot non-recoverable compliance percent recovery. aged modified comparable. also CO2 reduction using ranged 89.09% 42.79% depending type. On average, emission reduced 66.89% technologies. Overall, impact analysis validated confident use

Ncat Evaluates Warm Mix Asphalt
In addition to lower emissions warm mix asphalt has several advantages over hot mix asphalt such as fuel energy savings, decreased binder aging and an extended paving season (Photo courtesy: Matthew Corrigan, FHWA) The National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) is evaluating warm mix asphalt (WMA) technologies. WMA technology allows the mixing, lay down, and compaction of asphalt mixes at si...
متن کاملLaboratory Evaluation and Pavement Design for Warm Mix Asphalt
For many years, the asphalt industry has been aware of the energy savings and environmental benefits inherent in cold mix or warm mix asphalt technologies. Environmental awareness and the need for improved energy efficiency has increased rapidly over the past few years and extensive measures such as the air pollution reduction targets set by the European Union under the Kyoto Protocol have enco...
متن کاملRutting Based Evaluation of Asphalt Mixes
Pavement rutting is one of the most common and destructive pavement distresses being observed in flexible pavements, which is primarily due to axle loads that exceed legal limit and high ambient temperatures, and also poor mix design is one of the cause of rutting. The drastic increase in traffic volume during last few decades has resulted in premature pavement failures of almost the whole road...
متن کاملEffects of Warm-mix Asphalt Additives on Asphalt Mixture Characteristics and Pavement Performance
The primary objective of this research is to evaluate the feasibility of several WMA mixtures as potential asphalt paving mixtures for Nebraska pavements. To that end, three well-known WMA additives (i.e., Sasobit, Evotherm, and Advera synthetic zeolite) were evaluated. For a more realistic evaluation of the WMA approaches, trial pavement sections of the WMA mixtures and their HMA counterparts ...
